Ponca City Grand Prix
From 1961 until 1992 the Ponca City Grand Prix was THE RACE of the year for Oklahoma Region.
Arguably the "Last Real Road Race" in SCCA, Ponca City brought together enthusiasts from all aspects of the Region; Rallye, Gymkhana, Flaging and Drivers, to literally "build" a racetrack. The setting was idyllic, the racing fantastic and the parties legendary. We are presenting, year by year, photos, results, history and other memorabilia of this great event.
To those unfamiliar with "Ponca" we suggest reading the last year first, as Denise McCluggage wrote,
"So was this great American Day on 1992’s Fourth of July the last one? Surely not. But then next year may be. Or the next.
Best plan to make it before it’s too late. I mean, you missed Woodstock, right? The last of the natural road courses awaits you. "
This will give you insight into this iconic event. Denise's words were sadly prophetic.
